No Gibs (Violence Control) v1.1 Written by Kuhas of the QMS Clan
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
PURPOSE: Obviously, most people aren't going to like this. But I thought it
was a feature that id should have made in the program. This is
mainly for parents that want their children to play Quake but
do not want there child (or themselves) to play with all the
violence and body parts flying everywhere. What this patch does is
make it so when any player or monster dies, they just fall over as
opposed to exploding under heavy damage.
**THIS IS A MUST HAVE FOR ANYONE WITH CHILDREN PLAYING QUAKE OR ANYONE
**WITH A LOW TOLERANCE FOR VIOLENCE.
INSTRUCTIONS: Make a directory in your Quake directory called NOGIBS or some
other name if you would prefer. We will call it NOGIBS to help
understanding.
Then put the PROGS.DAT file and this text file in your new
NOGIBS directory. Then copy all your *.cfg files into the new
NOGIBS directory as well.
Now you are ready to run Quake. Only now, when you want the
Nogibs feature on, you must execute Quake like this:
quake -game nogibs
That's it! If you only use q95.bat, then you just need to edit
it and add the following at the end of that command line:
-game nogibs
FUTURE PLANS: I don't really have any plans with this mod. But I DO want you
guys to tell me if anything/anyone is exploding that shouldn't
be. I do want this to work perfectly. The only thing that does
gib are the zombies. I really can't help that. Zombies can only
be killed by being blown up. So, to counteract this I turned the
gib factors all the way down so they would just turn into a
pile of zombiness instead of parts flying everywhere. Other than
that, everything should just fall over dead.
BUG FIXES: Version 1.0 had a small problem where the dog carcasses would
be impossible to step over. This meant that some routes were
impassable. This has been fixed.
DISCLAIMER: This is one of the many things that I write that I do not charge
for. Since I do not charge for this, I claim NO responsibility
when it comes to the program. It is safe, I've tested it. But by
using it you are using it at your own risk. I will pay for nothing
that gets damaged or lost while you are using this program. If
you are not comfortable with that, do not use this .dat file!
CONTACT/INFO: If you have any comments, suggestions, etc. or if you just want
to thank me because your child can now live a healthy,
nonviolent life :) ... just write:
